Questions before you begin.

Straight answers about understanding yourself, your relationships, plans, AI credits and privacy.

What is KeepsCounsel?

KeepsCounsel is an AI-assisted journal for recording, remembering and analysing your own life as well as your relationships. Start with your own thoughts, experiences, values, habits and goals, or share something about another person, a memory or a situation. Choose what to save, then return later to recall details, ask questions and explore patterns in what you have recorded. Your saved knowledge is kept in a readable Markdown bundle, so it is more than a list of past chat messages.

Can I use KeepsCounsel to understand myself, not just other people?

Yes. Self-knowledge is a central purpose of KeepsCounsel, not an extra use case. You can record your own experiences, thoughts, feelings, values, habits and goals, then revisit them and ask questions such as “What have I learned about myself?” or “What patterns can you see in how I respond to stress?” You do not need to focus on anyone else to use it. Its analysis is based on what you share and save, can be incomplete or mistaken, and is not a diagnosis or professional advice.

What are the two plans?

The managed plan costs $10 per month and includes 500 KeepsCounsel AI credits, without needing your own AI provider setup. The use-your-own-access plan costs $4.99 per month and connects to your own OpenRouter API key or an eligible ChatGPT subscription. AI provider charges, subscription requirements and usage limits are separate from the $4.99 KeepsCounsel subscription.

How does the free trial work?

New customers currently receive one 30-day trial. After the trial, your selected plan becomes a paid monthly subscription unless you cancel. Cancel through your account before the trial ends to avoid the first charge.

Does 500 AI credits mean 500 messages?

No. Credits measure managed AI usage, not a fixed number of messages. The amount used varies with the provider-reported usage for each request, including the amount of text and relevant context processed and generated. Longer conversations and larger amounts of relevant context can use more credits. Your account shows your remaining managed allowance.

Do unused credits roll over, and can I buy more?

The managed plan's allowance resets to 500 credits for each eligible billing period, including the trial allowance. Unused credits do not roll over. Extra credit purchases are not currently available.

What happens when my managed credits run out?

Further managed AI requests are blocked when your allowance is exhausted. You can resume managed use when your next eligible allowance becomes available. The credit allowance applies to the managed plan; your own AI provider applies its own billing and usage limits when you use your own access.

What is the difference between Durable and Session only?

Use Durable when you want a conversation to update your lasting knowledge bundle. Use Session only to get a response without adding that conversation to the bundle. Session-only conversation history is temporary and is not included in later Durable requests. Session only does not mean that no data is processed: the AI provider still receives the information needed to generate a response, and the privacy policy still applies.

Is my information end-to-end encrypted?

No. Hosted knowledge bundles are encrypted in storage, but KeepsCounsel must decrypt the relevant information to provide the service. Relevant prompts and saved knowledge are sent to the AI provider used for your response. Read the privacy policy for details about processing, retention and your rights, and share only information you are comfortable having processed.

What do I need for the ChatGPT option?

You need a ChatGPT account with a subscription that includes Codex access. KeepsCounsel uses the ChatGPT/Codex sign-in flow for your own account. Availability and usage limits depend on your provider and plan. You may need to sign in again after your hosted session restarts. An ordinary ChatGPT account without the required access is not enough.

Can I download my saved knowledge?

Hosted knowledge-bundle downloads become available after your first successful paid invoice has been confirmed. They are not available during an unpaid trial. The bundle contains readable Markdown knowledge that you can keep outside KeepsCounsel. For a personal-data access or export request, use the contact details in the privacy policy.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open your account and use Manage billing to access the billing portal and cancel. If you are on a trial, cancel before it ends to avoid the first charge. Follow the billing portal instructions and keep any confirmation for your records. Cancelling billing is not the same as requesting deletion of your information.

How can I correct or delete information?

You can make confirmed changes to your saved knowledge in Durable mode, including removing specific people or relationships. For account-level access, correction or deletion requests, email privacy@keepscounsel.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity. Earlier versions, backups and records needed for legal, security or payment purposes may remain as described in the privacy policy.

Can I rely on KeepsCounsel for professional advice?

KeepsCounsel supports everyday reflection, but AI responses can be wrong or incomplete. It is not a substitute for medical, mental-health, legal, financial or other professional advice, and it is not an emergency service. Check important information and seek appropriate qualified help when you need it.
